Just replaced a ATR Radion X700 Pro 256mb PCI express with a PNY GeForce 7600 GS 512mb. I thought I was upgrading but according to my 3DMark2001 the Radion is way better? 17179 for radion and 15462 for the GeForce. I just use the 3DMark to see if it's better not trying to set the world on fire with scores. System has Athlon64 3500, 1.5g Ram windows XP and I just upgraded my powersupply thinking maybe that was the problem. I uninstalled the Radion from the add/remove hardware. haven't tried a driver cleaner yet as didn't want to spend the money. Am I wrong or should the GeForce be a better card? Just bought this weekend for $129.00. Any answers would be greatly appreicated as I will return to store if it's junk? Thanks, Ron

shuda got the GT, thats when u notice the performance increase.
they arent junk, they just need love to see their true potential =D
those cards are stock clocked to 400mhz with ddr2 memory and usually come with passive coolers. you should be able to oc that card to 500 core but there is a voltmod out there that isnt too hard that will let you run retardedly high with some good cooling. the only real problem with this compared to a GT is the memory is ddr2 not ddr3. so your limited to about 1ghz with a little volt modding.
If you just want something that out of the box will beat the x700, GT would have been a better bet, but if you google 7600GS overclocking or volt modding, you will see these cards getting to over 700mhz core. for a $100 card, that slays.
also, benchmark the cards in something more recent and valid, like 2003 or 2005. these are shader cards and the difference will be more apparent then.

Thanks for the imput. i don't want to bother with OC at this time. would a PNY 7300GT with 256mb be any better? Or a Radion X1600 Pro? If I'm not going to see a noticable differane I will just keep the X700 for now untill some of the better cards get a little cheaper.I'm going to swap out the athlon64 3500 for a Athlon64x2 4200 soon and could use the money for that. Thanks again

Was reading the specs on my old x700. I guess the reason id did so well is it says it has the gddr3 meomery?

Comparing the 7600gs to the 7300gt
go with the gs --- more pipelines

comparing the 7600gs to the ATI x1600 PRO
It's a real toss-up...the 76 has more raster operators and texture units, but the x1600 performs more shader operations per cycle.
