View Full Version : Variable Fan control
Does anybody know of a program that you can use to vary the voltage on your motherboard fan headers. I'd like to use it to control my CPU HSF's and vary the fan speed with the temperature. Any ideas?
I've also considered, adding the voltage lines of those fans onto my fanbus and leaving the RPM line on the headers, but an automatic solution would be a lot better.

Take a look at the Digital Doc 5.

I've thought about something like that, but I'm looking more in the lines of something software related (i.e. free) although I may decide to go with that. Any other suggestions?

I got a program called "speedfan" that claimed to be able to change the fan's rpms...
It didn't work for me, but give it a try for yourself...

Thanks for the tip. The program works great for 3 of my 5 fan headers (controlling them). The other two are controlled by a different Winbond chip that I don't believe supports voltage varying over the SMBbus (although a buddy of mine has the same chip, but uses it over the ISA bus with succes.) Thanks again.

I sure wish I had a mobo like you guys.... my mobo came with my Ibm..... It's a Acer mobo.... My friend has a Sony computer but his mobo is a Asus and he can read his temps and fan speeds.... I would buy a damn mobo but Compusa does not sell any Amd or intel cpu's..

No kidding!! That is great, it won't do anything to my fans...What's your mobo?
No, you don't want my Tyan Tiger S2460. Its a pain to monitor temps and fans. MBM won't work unless I go into the BIOS on bootup and go to the hardware monitoring section to initialize the chip (each time I boot). Its a pain.

Installed ok on my Asus P4T but I have to wait to reboot. Don't want to lose the villin I'm processing.
Yeah, the Tyan is a dullie. Its really a great board with a bad BIOS (and a few layout issues).
