Fun Fun! It was a free laptop, just needs a little TLC, DC jack and a new keyboard.

After about ten minutes of work.

Wow that's a pretty big mess there...:D

actually just did a DC jack repair myself on a Gateway M520... those jacks can be a real pita to desolder without copper braids.

Its funny, there are only two main types of screws that had to be removed.. and one odd ball that is twice as long and silver instead of black.. one of the simplest ones I've done yet.

Every time I see this stuff, I get thankful that I decided to go with my ThinkPads.

The power plug is mounted by a screw, and has a socket for the wires to plug into.

BUT;

I've never seen one go bad, even though they are easy to change!

I see those stupid dc jacks break all the time. and factory repair charges for a simple job are insane.
