Alright, I type the I.P I need into the address bar, I was told when I do this it will bring me to my modem and I can forward ports, I already knew this but never did it.

I tried to do it, it brings up "Authentication Required", needs a user name and password, I have NO CLUE what the user name and password is. I only ever made one user name and password and that was to sign into Verizon, I tried that user name and password and it's denied. I tried typing admin for user name and admin for password, nothing.

This is a Westell Model 327W for Verizon DSL.

What am I missing?

You could try the following

Login: Administrator
Password: password

or

Login: Administrator
Password: <leave blank>

or

Login: Administrator
Password Administrator

If it isnt any of those then you may need to contact verizon.

also look on the bottom of the modem for a pin code.

I believe that it is admin as the username and there is no password. Is this a router/modem combo?

this is correct I have 2 of them :)

EDIT: although it IS a router/modem they are called gateways. Its a wireless gateway to boot.
EDIT:EDIT: Oh yah change yours from default. I changed mine to my verizon un/pw so i dont forget it. Also go into wireless and disable wireless if you dont use it. Its on by default.

i played with that a few times...
hit the reset button the back and go to the ip address
its "admin" and "password" like the guy said above.

In the router, there should be an login box(setting) to connect to the internet, thats where you put the verizon login info that you made during the installation.

I think it this is how its done...if it doesn't work..call in the afternoon or late morning to verizon...or else you'll have a hard time talking to the customer support.

you could use the installation cd to do it everything again to set the router right....oh and when finished the internet and dsl light should be on(green).

I will state the obvious.

1. Never leave the factory administrator name and password in place. Change them the first time you log in.

2. Never the the ip address of your router the same as factory. Change it as soon as possible to avoid pings and active searching(sniffing).
It's the ip/http address you use in your browser to view the page(gui) for the router.

3. If your using only 2 computers in your house. Block all others by only allowing those mac address's or ip's.

4. Limit the ip address's the router use's. Change them to a small number of ip's assigned by the routers dhcp.

Just wanted to throw out some basic ideal's on security. I'm no professional but every little bit helps.
