I just bought an NEC Multisync FE950+ 19" aperture grill flat monitor. In DVD's and games the dark areas are not a true black. It's kind of a hazy very dark brown. My old monitor displayed very dark and true blacks. I adjusted the gamma, contrast and brightness and my display looks great. These settings don't seem to apply to the DVD's or games. I tried all the settings in Wolfenstein(looked great on the old monitor) but nothing works. It's quite an eye sore when you can't see in the dark because you have this haze-ish film that prevents any visual accuracy. :( Anybody have any ideas on how to correct this, apart from getting a different monitor?
Thanks

Have you tried adjusting the brightness on the monitor itself or only in windows. Other than that i dont have any tips for you, except take it back, it might be a bad monitor, and even if its not it shoudnt do that so they should give you money back.

Thanks for the reply. I found a decent balance between the OSD, Windows, and the in-game/DVD brightness controls. Took a bit of experimenting, but it's good:cool: What is odd though, I was getting a lot of page fault errors while making the brightness control adjustments in RTCW. My display freaked out while using the scope on the rifle (RTCW) level-"crypt2" when the corpses were spewing fire at me. :eh?: (reset) Anyways, I hope that's all behind me.
