Right now i'm on 512mb value ram.. not real good stuff here.

I got a DS3 and was wondering if this particular set of ram is good for overclocking?

I'm going to the shop today to pick up some other things aswell. Any good? I'm thinking its got potential.

i would just get PC6400 and save the headache... they're rated for that... if any thing u can get a bit more out of PC6400 than PC5300

plus u can get 2 GB of PC6400 for ~200 bucks.. vs that set for almost 200.

I believe that the price shown is Canadian dollars which converts to right around $150 in USD.

A good 2x1GB set will surely cost more than $200 USD these days, although the prices of DDR2 are dropping and there have been alot of deals through the Holidays...I still think that the pricing will be more in the $250-$300 range for decent ram.

The Mushkin modules (part #991511 for 1 gig kit and part # 991512 for the 2 gig kit, if I'm not mistaken), where originally made with good Elpida chips per the following two reviews:

http://www.legitreviews.com/article/294/1/

and

http://www.anandtech.com/memory/showdoc.aspx?i=2729

These modules performed very well per those reviews, however, a later article by Anandtech indicated that Mushkin changed the ICs to Infineon and that the modules were no longer as attractive as they had been.

Pages 17 - 19 of this review touch on the Infineon based Mushkin.

If you get the Elpida based modules, you should have decent ram which I believe is compatible with the Gigabyte mobo that you've selected.

I believe that the Gigabyte boards have issues with Micron based ram at higher (over 400) 1:1 clocks (don't have one, but seems to me that is what I've read).

"We still had a few issues with this BIOS or the F6 we are testing with today. Our primary issue is the Micron D9 FSB limitation and our ability to operate an E6600 CPU past the 400FSB level in a stable manner with the stock 9x multiplier. We also found any FSB setting higher than 425 when running the E6600 at the 8x multiplier was typically not stable."

There is a good chance that those Mushkin are Micron based...need to check the "list".

Yep, appears that they use D9GMH.

Seems like the new BIOS versions are perhaps getting it worked out. I would suggest that you do a little more research, perhaps in the Gigabyte mobo section here in the forums to see what guys are posting about this board and what memory they are using before you make any purchase.
