hp pavilion infrared

SO i got this dv 6018ea lap right, and this has infrared port, which only seems to fucntion for remote control. Is there a way to change it or it really cant be used for communicating with other hardware like mobile phones and stuff??

They should be. With infared, it seems like the only real practical use is for the remote but look around on some other forums and see what people have been able to get them to do.
