NOTE: I work 8:30AM EST to 5:15PM, with Thursday and Friday off. I'll be able to answer any questions, but not check specific things until Saturday.

I am technical support for Verizon Online DSL. I can help with connections, and check status, email, slow throughput among other things. If you don't want to deal with anyone else, I'll help you here or PM me for help. PM me with your phone number if you don't want it listed. I can also do a basic test to see how far away you are from the CO.

If this is against rules of the forum, please lock and delete.

Let me be the first to say "Thats pretty nice of you to offer" I know how frustrating it can be when your having connection issues and you have to spend hours on the phone with an automated technical support system!! I can tell you Charter Communications has the worst customer service ever!!! It took me 8 months to get my problem solved. So cheers to you for offering help...........

Depending on the issue, it should. I've never troubleshot FIOS before, but heard good things about it. Here (http://www.vonage-forum.com/ftopic9550.html) is a link that may be interesting, and might give some insight.

Thank you, it is frustrating with the automated service, and I can give the truth without Quality Assurance listening.

It's actually a picture from space, I just liked it and threw it in there. Thought it looked cool. They are normally brown :p

The Westell 327W sucks, and I don't like it at all. The only other option is the Actiontec Gateway, which isn't much better.

Alternatives? Well, not much. I'd go with a plain modem (Westell 2100, 2200) and a LInksys router. We fully support Linksys routers, and will have less issues. We don't offer the Westell 2100 or even the 2200's for that matter, but if you have an old one, I'd go that route.

We currently have the Westell 6100, which is a router, without multiple ports. You can set it to bridge mode, and if you do go that route, I'll give you the steps.

Also, there is a new version of the Westell 327W's firmware. It may help some issues with your current router. Just head over to http://www.westell.com to see. I can give more details if needed.

As far as the firmware is concerned, I thought that Westell wouldn't support the routers supplied by Verizon. http://www.westell.com/pages/support/refer.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@0014832196.1165407543@@ @@&BV_EngineID=faddigfkjeiibedcfkcfkcfin.0&product=A90-327W15-06

Also I belive the one I have is one of the ones assembled in China, as it doesn't have WPA, only WEP.

I'd like to be able to run the firewall with it, but it crashed the modem frequently. It even crashes without the firewall, but not as often.

PM me your phone number, and if your modem is less than a year old, I'll send you a new one with updated firmware. Hopefully it will run better.

PM sent, but as I'm over a year with this modem, I'm not sure if it will help.

PM'd you back. Your Westell Versalink's warranty is up (over a year) so I can't send a new one, but it appears that we also sent you a Westell 6100. If you have that, I'd strongly suggest purchasing a third party router (Linksys, quality DLink, Belkin, etc) to use with the Westell 6100. I can help you set it up for bridge mode, so it will work with a router.

Nope, never recieved a Westell 6100. I do have a Linksys WR54G, updated to the latest firmware, but I was having problems using it with the 327W.

Edit: Oh, and in case I haven't expressed it, Thanks for the help!

This may work with the Linksys. Let me see if we can configure the two to work properly together. The Versalink is kind of a pain.

EDIT: I used to have the 327W and it used to overheat,t here are different revisions of it, mine was an older one.. I called and paid like 15.99 for a ActionTec router\modem and it rocks.

Replied.

Glad to hear the Actiontec is working well. Of the two, I prefer the Actiontec as well, but they both work very similar. We seem to get less problems with the Actiontec, not sure if it's purely due to volume of Versalink's sent out vs Actiontec's.

Hello

I am new but seam to have similar issues to everyone else with respect to my verizon account, Let me explain.

We have a Westell 327W that we use and have one computer wired via Ethernet and 3 laptops that are wireless.

The Westell I presently have is the 4th one sent to me from verizon.

Every 2nd or third day I need to recycle my model to get it to work … then is I check the down load speed it is about 2700 kbs but after about 2 to say 3 days it falls to 400 to 800 kbs.

I keep calling verizon and they tell me that the line test is good but I still have these down load speeds and it must be my computer but … ok if it is the computer that is Ethernet connected then why the bad download speed on the wireless?

Just so you know … I had verizon come to the house and they ran a separate line from the basement on CAT 5E phone line to a wall jack from the splitter in the basement…nothing else in on this line and the modem is only about 4 feet from the jack which it is plugged into and maybe 8 feet from the computer that has the Ethernet connection, so there should be no loss via the line … also the splitter is about 22 feet from the jack and modem.

My wife and I are both in school via the Internet and my kids in college and grade school all need the Internet.

I am hoping to get some suggestions that will help keep the 2700kbs download … I am even willing to BUY a new modem and wireless router to get it to work but I need some assistance on what to get?

Thanks for your time
