Hi everyone, I have two laptops, one with a 1.6GHz Banias Pentium M and one with a 2.13 GHz Dothan Pentium M running DDR 2.

Are these CPU's cross compatible? I would assume the Dothan machine should be able to support an older CPU, the question is, will it damage anything if I put the 2.13GHz Dothan in the 1.6 machine? Aside from heat issues, but that won't be a problem here. I would assume it wouldn't be able to run the 533MHz FSB (revision C0 or something?) that the 2.13 has, but would it automatically run the CPU at a 400MHz fsb resulting in a lower clockspeed?

I don't really need it to run at full speed, just need it to work.

Thanks!

can you run cpu-z real quick on the lappy with the banis in it and see what the chipset is. if the mobo in the lappy is an older one then i dont think the dothan will work in it. you need to have at least the 852 line chipset IRC, been a long time for me since i read about banis/dothan cores.
