Well I hooked up a new computer I am building tonight using my current CPU(1Ghz T-bird).

I O/Ced it some(1.33Ghz), not even to the level it was O/Ced before and the temps in the new case are 10 degrees lower.

All was fine for a few hours. I ran some 3D Mark 2001 benchmarks and SiSoft Sandra Burn in 100 times and nothing froze.

I then tried to overclock the video card and thats when it froze. Normally I would just reboot and lower the speeds, but the computer stuck and the power and HD lights stayed lit.

I have a MSI K7T266A mobo and the D-Link on the back gave me the reading(according to the manual) that the CPU was damaged or not installed properly!

I thought oh well that is great I fried my CPU and will have to buy a new one

Well I put the CPU back in my old system and it works fine.

I know this is rather vague, but any clues to what may have happened?

Ram problem?

Video card problem?

Since it happened when you tried to oc the video card i'd say it's that. When you up the FSB the video card is already running above what it's used to so trying to oc it more can get you this result. The cpu dead thing is probably just one of the many weird side effects than can happen from oc'ing. Put everything back to default and try again. Then start oc'ing again. If you really want a niced oc'd video card then try and find the balance between the 2 oc's that allows you to run the system stable. If you're looking for most system performance than don't bother so much with the video card because it'll be oc'd as it is.

Maybe the card is fried. After it locked I tried restarting the PC numerous times, unpluging it, reseting the CMOS and nothing worked. The HD and power lights came on, but nothing else.

Well that would suck if it is the video card! I was hoping for a nice overclock with it. I only tried 220/475 and it locked up and it is an MSI Geforce 3 TI200

I realize O/Cing them both at the same time could have done it, but my MSI Geforce2 Pro was O/C'ed to 225/470 and the CPU was at 1.393Ghz at the same time so I would hope this card could do the same!

How frustrating! Unfortunately for me to test it again I would have to swap out the HD, PS and the CPU again since those are the parts I still need to make the new PC complete and I am just too lazy. Oh well, I guess am going to try it in my old computer and see how it does.

Thanks, anyone else?
