What is a golden socket? I see many people getting them, so what is so special about them?

They are a socket 462 with multiplier adjustments built in that mount on the motherboard socket 462 for boards that have no built in multiplier adjustment, like the Asus A7M266 or the dual proc Tyan boards. They are made in Japan and imported occasionally into the US by a few companies. Last time I saw them for sale, they were around $50.

They're available at Plycon, about $50.
Your CPU has to be unlocked, though. So it really doesn't help the AthlonXP situation.
