I'm thinking about getting a new CPU and I'm debating between the 1.4 Ghz T-Bird and the XP 1600+ (1.4 Ghz as well). The XP at that speed is only $8 more at the place I am thinking of buying it... so do you think it is worth it? See my specs below. Thx.

Buy an XP its beter and newer and has an SSE option but the 1.4 Tbird is almost the same league.

Good luck with your CPU

If your MoBo can run it then go XP. They run cooler & a little bit faster.

OK! Here we go. The differeces between the T-Bird and XP are small. The 1400 T-Bird's only advantages over the XPs is it's price tag and that all 1400 T-Birds have unlocked mutiplier settings in or out of the retail box. T-Birds also tend to O/C better than the XPs do. Now for the Athon XP's advantages. The XP CPU Cores have all copper internal interconnects for faster electrical signal transmition speeds from the Processor's die to the Socket A, 462 CPU packaging, lower core voltage requirments because copper has less resistance in its conductivity than aluminum internal interconnects do, and finally it lets the CPU's Core run a bit cooler than the T-Bird Core. XPs are alot harder to unlock than T-Birds are, that's the only drawback to the XP. Intel's somewhat new SSE intruction set is now a part of the AMD Athlon XP's processing power, but Intel's newer and faster SSE2 instruction set is not. That's about it, I think? Now it's up to you to choose your path to take! See Ya later Dude! ;)

In one word:

Heat.

XP's run approx 20% cooler than the T-birds.

As to O/Cing them, my XP1500 (1.33GHz in real money) is currently running at 1.5GHz (XP1800 speed, 10*150) and looks like having more in reserve, once I unlock it.......
