for christmas i want a new cd reciecer and speakers for my 1995 4 door jimmy. i'm not looking for anything really special. the stock speakers are showing their age, though. for the reciever i think i'm going to go with the sony cdx-gt310 (http://www.crutchfield.com/S-0S37hrn0rQo/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?search=sony+cdx+gt310&i=158GT310), because of the aux input on the front panel.
as far as speakers go i want to replace the dash and rear speakers for now. i'll worry about the front door speakers later. the dash can fit a 4x6 in speaker and the rear doors are 6.5/6.75 in. im on a small budget, <$50 per pair. i don't know much about speaker brands/quality, so can someone recommend me some good speakers?

I suggest you buy a 4ch amp instead of upgrading speakers. Whichever car stereo you end up going with the amp will be a weak point, start there you won't see a big difference in upgrading speakers without properly powering them first. You can get a decent amplifier for under 100 easily.

BTW, that 50x4 rating you see on most car stereos is BS. The most you'll see, RMS, is about 15 to 20 per channel.

thanks for the reply fronic. i'll look into an amp. i don't want to put a lot of money into the car, but if it's necessary i'll do it. any suggestions on a good brand of amps?
