View Full Version : Two computers and one monitor
I was wondering how I can use two comps without needing to buy a new monitor. I've already tried switching the plug but that's getting annoying everytime I finish a wu with the folder or the soon to be folder.
I've seen a " Iogear miniview 2 port KVM switch " at newegg and it would allow you to run two comps with one monitor , mouse and keyboard it was also 91 bucks shipped. I'm looking for something cheaper that will atleast allow me to use two pc'c with one monitor.
Any help will be appreciated thanks
Here is a free alternative. It is VNC. It allows you to controll the other comp. here is the link.

I just got my router and set up vnc to monitor my folders, it works great!
If you don't have a network, a kvm will work, but it gets costly when you have to buy it and all of those cables...You could purchase my router for about the same (Best Buy, $29.99). I think you can use a router with dialup, but you should get a cable modem/DSL!
I've got a box called a "Dataport" switch, that allows you to connect 4 computers to one monitor and 1 keyboard. It cost about $20 at a computer show. Each monitor cable was $5 and each keyboard cable costs about $3. I use it for my dedicated folding farm. works great and costs less than another monitor, and takes up less space.
you need a 2 port KVM (Keyboard/Video/Mouse), you can find them for much cheaper.. look at http://www.pricewatch.com or try to find them on ebay
