View Full Version : My C2E6600 Setup
Hi guys,
Since my experience in overclocking seems to be like a big O, I just wanted to have your opinion about my configuration, what should I do, if I am going to burn my cpu, etc.
So here are my specs:
Core 2 Duo E6600
OCZ DDR2 PC2-6400 Platinum Revision 2
P5B Deluxe / Wifi Ap
Antec Truepower 2 (550w)
Thermaltake Big typhoon Vx
And my configuration:
FSB: 375mhz (x9 = 3375 mhz)
Ram frequency: 750 mhz
Memory voltage : 2.15 v
CPU voltage: In bios: 1.475, In cpuz: 1.432 (why is it different by the way?)
My memory is at 5-5-5-15
Temperature: Idle: 42-45, With 2 instance of prime95: 53-55
Finally heres a screenshot of cpuz:

Thank you for any suggestion, anything can help!

you're lucky CPUz is displaying 1.4 lol... most of our sticks with 1.25 no matter what we do :)... you have identical setup as mine but i run mine at 420 X 8 for a bit more speed.

CPU-Z will report voltages up to 1.449V then it will go down to sub voltages. Like if im at 1.475V Bios it might be 1.44 in windows idle and 1.425V load or what ever the case is.
Difference between the voltages. Bios is static voltage, then theres Idle, and Load voltages. CPU-z doesn't report totally accurate voltages so you have to take that witha grain of salt until you test your board.
I have the same basic setup and it has been hell to get stable at any decent OC. I am glad that I am pleased with this cpu at stock, as its not a great clocker nor do I think unless mods and great cooling are used will it be. This is very contrary to cpu's like my D805 that with simple cooling could easily achieve a 50% OC and 100% with good cooling.

Y not stick it on Flebay and pick up a 6400 ?
I have another system at the shop right now that is the gigabyte DS3 and an E6400 that I bought off the forum. I couldnt get it to work at all and I know the guy at the place. He found it didnt like the OCZ plat ram, but runs fine with the camo ram. I am supposed to pick it up as its sitting there done now although it only has stock cooling. he dosent sell any of the super cooling stuff. I have an ultra 120 cooler I am going to sell in the forum as it dosent fit in either of the cases I have with the sides on. I will look for recommendations for cooling in that part of the forum and let you guys know if the e6400 fares any better. Right now I have the ocz HSF http://www.frostytech.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=1990
You would think it would work well, and it does if your not looking for super cooling. I guess having used the U120 I had been spoiled as far as air cooling. Now I need something as good but lower profile, and hopefully will mount without taking the MB out.
Ok thanks
But what memory and cpu voltage is the max I can go with no danger?
Thats going to depend on the memory and your cooling. Different memory can handle different voltages and cpu's can handle more as long as they are kept cool to a point. So I guess, what memory do you have and what cooler are you using?
Well, as I wrote in my first post,
Core 2 Duo E6600
->OCZ DDR2 PC2-6400 Platinum Revision 2 (edit : 2x 1024mb)
P5B Deluxe / Wifi Ap
Antec Truepower 2 (550w)
->Thermaltake Big typhoon Vx
What I like with the BigTyp is that it is so big that it blows a lot of air on all the motherboard, so my memory is also kept cooler because of that. My case is a P160, with 12 cm fans at rear and at the front intake.
I heard that OCZ memory uses higher voltage to work correctly... is that right?
I usually run mine between 2 and 2.2V to get it stable. I also have alot of airflow with my Antec 900 case. I have a big Typhoon sitting here, but dont feel like removing the MB to install it. Not that I am lazy, But having broke my back and neck, it becomes a massive chore moving this stuff around. I may just bring it to the local shop and have them do it, as I got some christmas money, and if I buy the new NV chipset MB they would install it for free. I think that may be the way to go. I just dont think the P5B clocks as well as people thought it would.
