The core voltage on my p4 according to the bios pc health status is around 1.6. The Core voltage is set to 1.75. I raised the Core voltage to 1.9 and pc health status now says the actual core voltage is 1.74 - 1.79. Is this right? The MOBO is a an Abit TH7-II. Just don't want to burn this thing up.

Thanks

This is a known bug with the TH7-II, the actual voltage is usually lower than what the BIOS setting shows.

Hey, no need to worry. Mine's at 2.2V in the bios and at 2.0 Ghz. It doesn't get THAT hot, and it's been quite happy for about a month. Hardware Monitor shows around 2.05V. Then again I'm not really the nervous type :D

I have a 1.5ghz socket 478 oc'd to 1.8ghz. The Vcore setting is at 2.10. Seems to running fine right now. But the CPU seems to be throttling. I run 3dmark2000 and get a difference of about 400 marks everytime. I have a OEM HSF. Do I need better cooling? Water?

What stepping is that cpu? Mine's the C1 (not D0 unfortunately) and it gets really warm (64°C/147°F) under full load (cpu stability test. However it doesn't throttle afaik. 3dmark is always within 20-30 points, quake 2/3 benches are within 1-2 fps, even after looping for a while. If your temps are lower then mine, maybe it's something else?

Don't know the stepping but my temps seem to be quite a bit lower than yours. What else could the problem be? What test are you using? What software monitor are you using? I'll give 'em a try and see for sure.

I'm using the "Winbond Hardware monitor" program that came with the TH7-II on the cd. Funny thing is, if I use Motherboard Monitor, my max. temps are 7°C/13°F lower. So using the same program is important here. I think the Winbond hardware is closer, because when I reboot and go into the bios right after testing cpu temp is around 59-60°C. I test the cpu with "CPU Stability Test v.6 build 154 (final)" Let me know what results you get. If it's not the temperature, try uping the Vcore one notch. If that doesn't help, it could be your ram. Have you done a test? I usually test my ram with memtest-x86 (latest version is 2.8 I believe) and Doc-mem from www.simmtester.com Memtest usually stresses the ram harder, and with a little experience you can actually see when the cpu is reaching it's limit and it's not actually the ram failing. But that's a different story.

I can get to 1.83 with core voltage at 1.75,never higher than 56c. I guess I need to crank it up to 1.95. Also on the stepping whats the difference between C1 and Do, mine shows as 10, where can I find out more about stepping? Thanks for any info.

You can check out the stepping of your cpu here http://support.intel.com/support/processors/sspec/p4p.htm If yours says 10 it's a C1 like mine. Now mileages will vary a bit, but 1.9+ should be very possible. I think somewhere between 2.0 and 2.1 is the limit of my chip with adequate cooling. I can boot into windows upto 2040 Mhz, but it really isn't stable. Hope the Swiftech will take care of that.
