Nice work, as usual.

I don't remember if I told you yet but should you need to make future cases McMaster now offers a complete line of structural framing systems, including the T-Slot aluminum systems that are more commonly available under the Lubic brand. As can be expected, McMaster offers an extremely wide variety of connectors/fittings and sells the framing pieces in long lengths.

Search for "Aluminum Framing System" and click on Page Number 1522

Damn, that looks cool even for just a case, but a benching rig too!

captain slug,

Yup, I've been thru their catalog. Actually, tho, a Lubic kit isn't bad price wise for what you get in the box (bars, sliders, screws, joiners, brackets, motherboard tray). And unfortunately, there are incompatibilities with Lubic (metric based no center hole) and mcmaster's.

To be honest, tho, there's also one critical piece that I have yet to find offered by any online company: 3 way corner brace.

Thats funny... I had thought it was already finished a while ago.

Nice work in the end!

On these big projects built from scratch--like captain slug's--its the frikin details that take forever. Paint, polishing plastic edges, bay slot covers, on-off switches, cold cathode placement...

Looks awesome
That's a sunbeam rheobus, i have the same one. If you have a dremel you can use the fluffy white felt bit to remove the white paint without damaging the glossy black underneath.

Do you have a copy of that pic in High-Res? If so, mind linking it for a new addition to my background folder?

Wow, making me blush.

I've got it in 6mp format if you want it via email or can recommend a quick big file upload site. I use photobucket which max's its resolution at 1024x768, which I can do.

One thing I've learned over the years is to learn how to take your own decent pictures. Its surprisingly easy! All you need is a $200 camera, a table with a dark table cloth, a tripod ($19 worth more than anything else), and a piece of white paper to white-balance.

Very nice work Navig! I'm always excited when I see one of your projects, as I know they're always excellent and interesting to look at :)

I watched the video and I must say I was quite impressed. Easy to strip down and start working on your components.

Great job!

Thanks,

I've moved past several projects since completing this one, yet it remains my main system case to this day. I still usually run it open bench style. Here's a pic from last week:

Needless to say, the open-ness aids in some air cooling madness. CPU is being cooled with an lapped Ultra 120X with the backside cooler stolen from IFX14. That's a vanilla Ultra 90 on my 8800gts. Altho there is a ton of fannage, all of them are running at very low rpms, making for an uber quiet air cooled monster.

That 8800 cooler is absolutely ridiculous, what kind of modding did you have to get to mount the Ultra 90? The cd cases to support the weight is a nice touch.

Ultra 90 on my 8800gts. (http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=539601) Stock video card cooling has a long long way to go when a $19 cpu heatsink annihilates its performance.
