I just reinstalled my os (win98se) and was tweaking when I noticed that the ONLY entry in config.sys is setver.exe and NOTHING in autoexec.bat... is this right... my sound card works... but there's no entries where they should be... am I missin' something... oh and himem is loaded though... how???
Windows dosen't use the DOS drivers. Even if you don't load the drivers for your sound card from autoexec.bat (or for that matter, anywhere in DOS), windows has it's own Made For Windows drivers to run it.

Thanks... I thought I was going crazy:D Then do I need setver.exe in my config.sys...
I don't know for sure. I can't get this stupid computer to NOT load SETVER, so I can't say for sure if it will work.
In case you don't know, SETVER is just a program to trick DOS programs into thinking that your version of DOS is actually the version of DOS the program wants. Everything (should) be fine without it as long as you don't run any DOS programs. Even if you DO run DOS programs, it should still be fine, but I can't garuntee anything. Most of the programs needing SETVER want DOS 3 to DOS 5. I'll assume that you don't have any programs that old...
