View Full Version : How to remove Arctic Silver Epoxy?
Is this possible or its stuck on there for good?
Perhaps an air chisel or jackhammer might do it.

whats it stuck on? You might want to try Acetone and Rubbing Alcohol and see what works.
I kinda doubt you will get it off unless it has been cooking there for a long time. One thing to try is put it in the freezer a little while to make it brittle and try to pop it off with a screwdriver. GENTLY! If you pop too hard you will see why I don't advocate using that stuff! Good Luck!
use dishwashing detergent

If it's on a CPU you could try throwing it in your gastank for a week :)

Do not stick the screwdriver under the heatsink, you'll just damage something. Been there done that, and it didn't even get the heatsink off.. No what works with epoxy is hard sharp blows.. It's a very brittle glue and can't take that sort of thing. A nice tap with a hammer (gasp! it works) will jar it enough usually. Or take that screwdrive and put it lengthwise in the fins (if it fits) and a quick shove that makes the heatsink want to rotate will usually do it too. The key is not to do it slowly, you want sharp quick jerks on the heatsink to "crack" the epoxy. :)

try twisting the heatsink
What about soaking the whole board in something that wouldn't damage components?
has anyone tried melting it off with a sauder iron or something

man, you guys just scared the hell out me, i will never consider using that stuff ever again!! I put a thread out about gluing stuff on your chips in here somewhere. Ramsinks might be alright but if you ever want to change fans or whatever cause it died, you got some problems. If you wanna take it back off don't epoxy or superglue it.

Arctic silver epoxy will go slightly soft if its in contact wit hwarm water for a long period. Im not sure if this will help or not.
This stuff is damned strong and i wouldnt recomend that you attempt to remove it unless absolutely necicary.
