First of all: improved performance comes in different ways.
In terms of pure speed, Win98SE is a little bit faster than WinXP Professional (but ONLY a little bit !!).

The difference is not big enough to notice in games etc. (And I play UT, Quake3, Wolfenstein, Alien vs Predator 2, Max Payne...)

In terms of stability, reliability and multitasking ability, Windows XP Performs MUCH, Much better than Win98SE.

I can print large TIFF photo files, while scanning new photos, burn a CD and surf the web all at the same time. In Win98 or WinME only two of those would be enough to crash my system.

I will never go back to a Win9x OS....

98se is faster than xp ?

98se is faster in apps/games by a margin that doesn't matter.

XP will boot waaayyy faster than 98se.

i ran other games in my xp box...............everything is fine..........and better than 98se.........FAST and STABLE

Well Windows XP would be a wise choice but I'd really recommend Win2K if you don't have big bones to blow.

The pro version is really expensive too.. And Win2k is just as good and Sp3 is coming out and supports mostly all the new games out now.
