This is the latest update I have received regarding my cable modem service. Your situation may be different, but this gives you an idea of what's going on:

Charter @Home Internet Service will cease tomorrow, Friday November 30,
2001.

@Home is in bankruptcy.

Charter will switch all @Home subscribers to their new AT&T Pipeline
Backbone.
The new service will be called Charter Pipeline.

Charter is sending out CD-ROMs that will reprogram your computer.
The software is downloadable. We do not currently have the web address.

Modems will be re-provisioned Friday night.

If you have the software installed or if your computer is set up for DHCP,
you should be able to surf the Internet.

Otherwise, you will need to change TCP/IP to use DHCP.

Without the software, you will also need to change the e-mail settings.
Inbound: pop.charter.net
outbound: smtp.charter.net

Please download all e-mail on Friday. There might be problems.

Your primary e-mail address will change to <oldusername>@charter.net

Your secondary accounts will be deleted. Please download all e-mail from
secondary accounts on Friday. You may be able to access them over the
weekend using Inbound server: netmail.home.com, but don't count on it.

Everything is in place for the switch except the BellSouth connection to
the Internet. Charter is waiting on 1/3 of their bandwidth to be installed
on Friday. If this does not happen, you will not have Internet service
until it does.

Everyone will be limited in bandwidth 256k up and down for approx 2 weeks
until they get the other 2/3 of their bandwidth to the Internet.

If you are using two or more computers WITHOUT a router, then you have
probably purchased additional IP addresses. You will not longer have these
IP addresses and will need to get a router.

The IP lease from Pipeline is short and comes from a pool. You will not
have the same one all of the time.

There will be a new pricing structure coming into place based on
bandwidth.

Eventually, commercial customers will be switched to Charter Business
Networks. Their price will be increased. It is not sure when this will
happen. It will probably take several months before we see any info on
this problem.

Don't forget to save your seti passwords so you can change your e-mail address to the current one!

My @home became @Rogers, man is it a nightmare. It seems that every couple of hours the email system is dead, then a few hours later its running again! Not fun. I can't get to many sites for hours at a time, then they come up fine. Even the sites I can access are at about one half to one third speed coming up. Not fun.
