Sorry I haven't been around. I moved home back to my parent's house, forced there because I didn't find a job. I do not have my own internet nor control my own electricity bill, but I'm hoping to put in the odd work unit here and there...not that my PC folds quick. But I thought you ought to have an update. Take care folks.

OK guys, mr technically useless dXII][Lofty needs your help again. I've re-installed the text-only console version of FAH, and it isn't working. I think I botched the setup settings and don't know how to change them. FAH just comes up with the error:

"Error: Attempt #X to get work failed, and no other work to do. Waiting before retry."

And repeats. Any ideas?

Great to have you back. Its sounds like your firewall is blocking it!

A) Do you have IE7?
B) Did you tell FAH to use IE settings?

If so, then go back and tell FAH not to use IE settings. Something about IE7 borks everything.

P.S. nice to have to you back.

I use mozilla firefox, and set FAH not to use my internet explorer settings. I didn't tell it to use a proxy either.

It's been too long guys...missed the good community here. Unfortunately, I've forgotten how to do nearly everything! FAH is still stuck not folding...I'm going to look up some FAQ's and try and learn something again. No doubt I'll be pelting you with more questions in 10 minutes...

Shame about teh amount of time you spend trying to get a single crap folder back online, but thanks anyway!

Got some useful info out of the FAQ's...I think I need to tell FAH to use a proxy...I selected no when i installed and I'm not sure but that may be the cause of the program's failure to retrieve work units. How do I go back and change the settings of the program? When I start FAH it immediately starts trying to download a work unit and fails, it doesn't give me the start up options again (even though I've reinstalled the program).

Just had a not-very-cunning plan at all. Since FAH can be set up to run in the background without interfering with the system, I'm going to secretly install it on my mother's laptop which is in the house. She leaves it plugged in all day, just think of those empty cpu cycles, wasted. Since the laptop is in the house I can always remove it. Teehee...

Lofty: I'm going to secretly install it on my mother's laptop which is in the house. She leaves it plugged in all day

We don't ever recommend borging someones elses computer without permission even your own mother's computer. It causes hard feelings and sometimes worse. It can also be bad for the project's reputation.

Your mother will notice that something is not right because the cooling fan will run fast and loud all of the time since it is folding at 100% CPU usage.

If you do put FAH on a laptop sometime be sure to configure the client for it in case the laptop does have to run on batteries or the batteries will go dead really fast. I think when it asks you to answer yes or no for "battery= ?" you put "yes". If the laptop is required to run on batteries then FAH stops until you plug the laptop back in. If I'm wrong on this someone please correct me.

You are correct...you would think to put "no" but the question actually is "Halt on battery"..so you want to say "no".
