View Full Version : Cooling Monitor.
I'm using a Hitachi Superscan Pro 600 and a while back the thing started to overheat. The picture would turn yellow. I immediately went to find an oscillating fan I could stick up against it. Worked fine. No more yellow. Now the thing is, as the winter months have come upon us, this thing is freezing my ****s off, even on low.
I tried mounting several different fans on the top, the sides, bottom, and back. Each time, whether or not the fans actually touched the monitor, the magnetic field would start to distort the picture even as far as 4 inches.
Can you guys think of any ideas I could try? I need it to be something permanent so that I can carry this lunker around with me to LAN parties and the like.
Thanks,
Will

They claim these justcooler Monitor fans are shielded, personally I use a 120mm Nidec TA450dc @ 6 volts(near silent) and it was the only fan out of a dozen tested that didnt cause distortion.
It has a fan guard and is affixed with 3m industrial double sided tape.
It sucks the heat out in a big way and I actually did some testing and with the fan sucking its dropped the temps of the monitor by over 20*f. I run it on a Cheap Ac/Dc adapter run on a switch that turns on when the pc is booted.........Actually I boot my pc with a Justcooler remote control that bypasses the Power on and reset switch......Its great as the only thing that turns my pc on is the small remote and only costed $19.99

Ps Will I think I may have a Justcooler monitor Cooler, I got it for like $5, if I find it I'll shoot you a PM as you can have it for what I paid.
I was looking around for some articles that might help me out and I came across that and the home-made one here at overclockers.com . The ladder didn't seem very fun considering the use of more than 5-6 inches of material. A duct didn't seem too appetizing as well. I looked at this but for the price of $20 bucks + shipping I didn't want to risk interference with my rather sensitive monitor unless I knew for sure their claims are correct. You can never be too sure about these things...
May I ask you why you're using a 120mm instead of the Justcooler Monitor fan? Did it do a very good job? Any hint of interferance?

Will,
The reason Im using the Nidec 120mm is that its lower profile and I can control the speed of the fan and the noise.
You cant do that in its stock form with the Justcooler and since the Justcooler didnt cause distortion and the fact that I didnt want to cut the cord to affix to a ac/dc adapter.

Seriously I tried a dozen fans and only that particular Nidec didnt cause distortion, an 80 mill Nidec and a 60 mill Nidec both caused noticable distortion.
Another reason I am using the 120mm Nidec is that my cat loves to sleep on my Monitor and he seems to like to put his head on the Nidec as he likes the warm breeze blowing on his face. A few times he knocked the Justcooler over and I was afraid he would get cut in the blades but I suppose I could have used the same double sided tape holding down the Nidec. But its not my monitor its his, and he like the fact that the nidec is a good pillow.

elbogg,
That Pc remote control is simply awesome, keeps your spouse, roomate, kids from being able to turn on your pc, not to mention that when your on your way home you just hit the button in your driveway and your pc is all booted up and waiting for you.
The range is about 50 feet and is simple to install, takes about 2 minutes.
Heres some info about it (http://www.neoseeker.com/resourcelink.html?rlid=29467)
Believe it or not they are extremely hard to find on the retail market, but if you contact this guy he will sell you one for $19.99, I got mine from him and he's a very honest vendor and ships fast
