As you all know ati has this stupid feature that clocks your card at Max speeds when your in a 3d app and then underclocks it when your not.

Well Im a person who alt tabs ALOT to View forums, change music, chat on instant messages, and alot of other things

Obviously when i do this my card is going UP AND DOWN in voltage AND in speeds

Obviously a few alt tabs wont kill the card but like i said i alt tab alot. probably once every 3-5 mins. and sometimes back to back to back in like 30 seconds.

Does this even damage the card?

and plz dont tell me to just lock the card in one setting because

1. Im not running 3d games underclocked (horrible performance)
2. Im not running my comp with the card running max speeds when im not in a 3d app (good way to waste your cards life)

nVidia cards do this as well.

No.

It's actually quite useful, because it saves a lot of power and the GPU lasts longer because it's not producing as much heat. Changing the clock dynamically while the GPU is running does not do anything negative to it.

And this thread sucks.

The thing is i always compare a computer to a car.

If you constantly on the high way Go 80 and then go 40 and then go 80 and then go 40 back and forth.

You hurt the engine

I figured its the same for video card. Your constantly making a ton of heat and energy voltage and then turning it lower. THen upping it again and making it lower over and over. constantly wearing out the parts of the card

That's just your problem, computers and cars aren't the same. Stop doing it and your fine. There is nothign to wear out in the core of the GPU. You can overheat, but if its going lower than normal what's it gonna do. I reiterate what I said in your last 8000 other threads, stop worrying and just enjoy the system

I feel car analogies are good for explaining conceptual things. But when it comes to details analogies don't always apply, this is a detail and the part is in fact designed to run this way.
