That’s just irritating. My first post and the posting system made me resign on and I lost it. Let’s try this again.
Foxconn 761GXK8MB-RS (socket 939) from Newegg bundled with the Encore TV/FM tuner $59.99 bundle - $40 rebates = $19.99. Free shipping with PAYPALFREE coupon. PCI-E only two PCI slots – not particularly fond of that, but I’m doing a cheap backup gaming system here. FYI one of the posters at Newegg stated this MB does not like Linux.
TigerDirect has the Athalon 64 4000+ for $129.99 - $50 rebate = $79.99. $6.99 shipping. I could gave gone with Newegg for $89.99 with free shipping using the PAYPALFREE again, but I owe TigerDirect an order where they actually make some money off of me. Plus I’ve generally had good luck with their rebates.
Frys has an Ultra 500 watt PS w/sli power plug and a mid-tower for $40 each, free with rebates, no shipping. I’ve always had good luck with Ultra rebates. I’ve only seen one good DDR memory sale this holiday season, so I grabbed an extra 512mb stick. It’s OK memory, but as you can tell, this is a bargain system. I’m stealing an extra stick from a file server on my home network.
Buy.com has the XFX GeForce 7600GS 256MB PCI Express x16 Video Card (Dual DVI S-Video) for $89.99 with Google checkout - $40 rebates = $49.99. I have the 7600GT from Circuit City/black Friday which with a coupon they sent me cost $75. You can look at the thread (http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=491427) for the $129.99 XFX GeForce 7900GS if you want to spend more money.
Buy.com has the Artic Freezer 64 Pro CPU Cooler for $19.99 plus shipping. Get some extra stuff (we got the new re-release of Star Wars with the original version which my wife and I prefer plus some music) and use the Google checkout. Works out to about the same prorated for the shipping as paying $19.99 at Newegg using the PAYPALFREE coupon for free shipping. Plus I dislike Paypal. The Artic Freezer 64 Pro has the best cooling reviews for any of the under $40 coolers. There are a couple of good coolers in the same style for $20 but then you have to purchase a fan – the Artic Freezer has great reviews and is ready to go.
The Maxtor brand name lost market share since they were bought by Seagate. Office Depot has been periodically running 100gb drives for $20 w/rebate (free shipping). They are not running one now, but keep an eye on their sales, they’ve run it three times since September. I’ve bought a couple of them. Last you can pick up the Hanns 19” LCD for $100 plus shipping from PC Connection. I have one, it’s not a bad monitor.
This isn’t too bad a gaming machine for the price. I’ve already purchased Windows XP for $10 – retail upgrade new w/rebates, and I’ve got extra speakers. Now to purchase Neverwinter Nights 2 and have a Lan party.
