Im wondering how much additional power usage the XBox PSU can handle on top of the standard comoponents, im just trying to be sure that adding another fan or two and some lighting wont damage the PSU or fry any components.

btw anyone know a good Xbox mods website, with tutorials other than xbox-scene.com

thnx

What PSU is it? If you hvae an idea ho makes the unit, it would be easy to tell what would happen if you tack on a bit more load.

Yeah, they can handle a couple lights since most cold cathodes and LEDs only add a couple watts. I've seen where people were running two HDDs in their XBOXes with the stock PSU. Though, I'm sure the newer the revision the better the PSU.

I tore my XBOX apart and added fans, used real thermal heatsink material, and realized that I hated the system and traded it for a Gamecube which I sold a month later to buy a stick of RAM. :)

I've seen some crazy mods with a stock PSU, so I'm sure it can handle a few LEDs and some fans. As for tutorials, check http://www.llama.com
I think it links to outside tutorials, but its a nice collection.

The motherboard can only handle a single HD at a time. It doesn't allow you to hook two HDs up at once. So people have to install some sort of switch to use two HDs. Along with that, I'm pretty sure anyone who put 2 HDs in their Xbox only has one HD powered at a time.

I really don't know how much the PSU can handle, but the parts in an xbox don't take much power at all to run.

Last I heard, the XBox 360 would shut off from overheating...

Doesnt sound like something I would want to try to pull more power from UNLESS it was for cooling.

If this XBOX overheating issue is true, then Xbos 360 sucks

The original Xbox PSU has plenty of overhead (especially on the +5V rail used for LEDs), I have seen people on the Xbox-Scene forums with 100+ leds and the Xbox didn't even blink.

As for the single hdd thing, that is only because there is only one ATA header in the Xbox, and the Xbox kernel only supports one harddrive. People who ran Xbox linux had no problems with multiple hard drives. Also many people used the dual hdd/one powered trick as a primitive dual booting method. When you wanted to run Xbox linux on one hard drive, and have the stock MS dashboard on the other, you just supply power to the one you want to boot off of.

Also fans aren't really that big of a deal, adding a watt or two to the power consumption doesn't really do much.

I know you wanted other resources, but honestly...Xbox-Scene is THE resource. The front page/articles are mediocre, but the wealth of knowledge in the forums is unparalleled as far as Xboxen are concerned.

The Xbox1 Case and hardware Modding section has a wealth of information stored in old threads and project logs for someone who is willing to search.

Maybe you can gleam something out of this thread as well:
