Hi guys and gals,

I'm thinking about completing my htpc project. The problem originally was that when I turned my tv input over to the htpc, it would not pick up the computers video signal. I would have to vnc into the computer and change the resolution back and forth and then it would work. Obviously, this was a problem and I abondened the effort but I would really like to have an HTPC. Has anyone else had this problem and how did you fix it.

I think I was using an Nvidea FX5500 AGP. It was my bro's card and I gave it back. I was using a DVI to HDMI adapter to get it to the TV.

unless the tv is hi-def, you might have an easier time using s-video. i had a lot of trouble using component video cables and getting windows to recognize the tv (and set the proper resolution, then getting it to "stick" after a reboot). using s-video made those problems go away.

you might also try using older nvidia drivers since you're using a 5500. i had to revert to 84.21 in order for my 6200 to work properly.

My tv is hi-def. It only has one set of component inputs and they are being used. Thats why I wanted to use the hdmi input. The Nvidia drivers were great to work with. Everything was right and the settings stuck because when I logged into VNC the resolution was correct. It's just that when my TV was turned on after the computer, the tv would not pick up the computer. But if the tv was already on and then you turned on the computer it worked fine.
