Would appreciate some feedback on HDD Image Backup software for the New Rig
in my Sig. I've been running Acronis True-Image 8.0 on the Main Rig for some time
(Xp-Pro Sp-1 & FAT-32) with no problems backing up or restoring C: drive.
On the New PC, Acronis seems to create images OK of C: drive , but when I try to
restore the image, Acronis tells me it "can't see any hard drives". Don't know if
this is because the "DOS" restore program can't work with SATA drives or can't
work with NTFS, or both - or driver issues - or is it just me?

It doesn't recognize the SATA and you'll need to get Acronis True Image 9.0 to work with it.

Thanks for the feedback. Someone elsewhere said it was "driver issues" but both drives work OK in Windows, and I don't have them configured as a RAID array. They are just set up as drices C: and D: on the first 2 SATA ports.
Meanwhile, does anyone have direct experience with the Acronis 9.0 software?

I tried 9.0 with a brand new dell pc and it would not pick up the sata drives when booting off the CD.

Hmmmm.....TrueImage 9.0 picks up my RAID array on my Asus A8V. Let me just add I use PowerQuest's Drive Image 2002. I use the two boot floppys to run the program, no bootable CD, and it is twice as fast as True Image and has picked up my arrays on four different boards with no problems. The company was bought out by Symantec but copies can easily be found for cheap(bit torrent :)).

I just got back from Googling for Acronis 10 Home version as well. From what I could find, ATI 10 definitely supports both NTFS and SATA. It also has some handy new features and reportedly cures some bugs that plagued ATI 9.0.
Best of all, a Free Trial version is available to download, before plunking down $$. So, I'll give that a try-out.
Thanks a bunch for the feedback - I'll post here again after I see how it goes.
