Yup, other than us!
We have been ranting and raving about how it is a resource hog, not much better than XP, blahblah DX10, blahblah not till bugs shaken out, blahblah Win2k till 2010 w00t!
There are other things in Vista other than DX10 and pretties. I just built my mom a new computer for christmas, and I was thinking about getting her a copy of Vista Home (proably basic), so I figured I would try RC2 on her system, see what she thinks till Jan 30.
Sad to say, my brothers have a bad habit of looking at stuff on the internet that they shouldnt be (my mom is a extreem anti-smut wacko), and mom has a habbit of just hiding the keyboard and mouse when smut happens. My brothers loose access to a good school resource, and mom is always paranoid.
So, I remembered seeing something in the control panel about a parental control. I made a test account on my computer, and set its filter to high, and I couldent even get into the MSN website. Appearantly 'high' is for children and will only allow you into sites preaprroved by an admin. So, tried out medium, it is perfect. I can see most pages, but I tried everything I could think of to get into some pron in that account. Not a chance. It even blocked google searches for anything bad. Without extensive testing, I went 5 mins without seeing a single pair of boobies. If I cant beat it in 5 mins, my brothers will never ever find anything.
So, back to the 'is Vista worth upgrading to'? If I was a mindful parent, trying to keep my kids out of the internet's finest, I would definatly say yes! The parental control filters sites, can block downloads, block playing certain games, and it can even block access to the internet during certain periods of the day (no catching kids on the computer at 3am).
