I never thought VIA would start making CPU's. Hmm looks like there is gonna be another Pentium killer on it's way.

Isn't that a Cyrix which is long gone???? :D

There not meant for performance there meant to be hsf-less COOL!:D

shouldn't this go in the Via CPU section ;)

Now if they'd only make some C3 specific motherboards......... with a socket for an 80387 :D

sounds pretty slow...but i wonder since it doesn't produce as much heat if it'd be easier to overclock the hell out of?

jeff:confused:

VIA took over cyrix and their line of cpu's
the C3 is better than the old cyrix's,but not by much
they cat compete with p3's,p4's or athlons in terms of performance, or even a celeron or duron

they feature a core running at 733-933 on a 133 mhz bus
with 64k of L2 cache

not speedy, but built on a .13 micron process and using a low voltage, they consume less power and radiate less heat
should see them move into the notebook arena for this reason

:)

.., but I'm like you, I'd certainly be interested to see what they'd oclock like. I mean we do know how to handle heat, let's get one hot;)

Maybe there will be a new VIA CPU section....if there any good.
Anyways they won't oc well as there not designed for speed so I doubt that oc'ing will be to effective.

Good for the ol boiling laptop though:eek:

Cyrix processors have a nasty tendancy to   EXPLODE:mad:  when overclocked. I'm not making it up. We had to completely rebuild an old system after one guy tried to oc his Cyrix processor. Took out his mobo and hd and RAM. You wanna smell burning? OC a Cyrix :D

COOL!

Oc BANG!!!! destroy all evidence.....

Mine's overclocked. Not by much but it is oc'd. I went for the next setting on my motherboard and it wouldn't go but it sure didn't explode.

Bang!

Wat was that......

i hear you...my dad's Cyrix 233 is soooo slow...i want to give him my box when i build a new one. i can't stand it!

Are they multiplier locked ?

whoa
what if a cpu company did that on pupose to stop overclockers? Just a thought.

Nope it ain't gonna happen!!!

What happens if the default settings were accidentally changed? To dangerous as well.

there is a significant difference between the old and the new cyrix's
they are both slow, but the new "ezra" core has been found to be very reliable
as for overclocking,it is multiplier locked,as with all socket 370 chips, however you still have the fsb

are there any benchmarks for this cpu?

Why?
U have an Athlon.

Via's cpus have been very slow performers....... molasses to be more precise. They sell mainly in Asia in cheap oem and integrated systems ..... good for email and basic stuff nothing else. I don't think that they will be able to satisfy the caliber of this forum.

Overclocking: Indeed they use .13 and low voltage but they have been using smaller dies and voltages than the others but that never helped them before.

Secondly if they do overclock and overclock well the performance might be similar to getting a 500 celeron to over 800 to have a 500 P3 still beat you down in benchmarks.

Much more similar to Transmeta's Crusue line of Processors, low power, and the main feature is longer battery life for notebooks...

Yeah but they use a smaller micron process so if they made faster CPU's they could probably beat AMD and Intel in Mhz, not performance though.
