I'm not overclocking my 1.4 Athlon yet but I do want a quiet heat sinc and fan but they all seem to be deafening. Any suggestions???

Get an SK6 with a 27CFM YS Tech fan. Should be pretty quiet and you can always get the 50CFm Delta Screamer when you want to OC:eek:
Try the Millennium Glaciator II. Its only 36 decibels and blows a nice 29CFM.

Or you can always just a higher performance heatsink/fan combo and if the noise bothers you just volt mod the fan to a reasonable speed. That way you may be able to squeeze a little more performance depending on the noise you can handle.

thats just it...i live in a dorm and when i am studying anything gets to be loud where i have to turn my computer off. i'm looking for something below 32dB but is still efficient.
I'd go with the Alpha PAL 8045 and a Sunon 50CFM fan hooked to a rheostat. At full speed the fan is 40 dBa. You should easily be able to get it under 30 dBa while you study. Then you can turn it back up when you've got the processor under full load.

I'm with nihili with the rheostat/potentiometer/variable resistor idea. A big HSF, Swiftech MCX462 or Alpha PAL8045, with a 80mm DELTA 80CFM:eek:. I know it's loud but you can always turn it down to a whisper with the potentiometer. Check some watercooling methods to get a little more quiet.
don't get the 80mm delta with 52dB of hair dryer! get a 80mm hs so it won't be so loud and the rheostat is also a great idea so if you decide to OC it you can turn up the 50CFM. try svcompucycle.com for 29.99 Alpha and the Glaciator is also a good choice.
