I have a Athlon Tbird and it has those 4 little black pads on it, should i take those off before applying the heatsink or leave them on

Keep them on Oreo:D Might just save you from chipping/cracking the core.

Why keep them on. I have the 1.1 T-Bird and I have the pads off. At one time I was watercooling and with the pads on I fried a 1.2 T-Bird. The 1.1 right now has them off with a AMD shim and a Swiftech MC462-BA on it.

sure you can take them off if you use a shim but Oreo probably is not using one:D

If you are going to use a shim Oreo, go with one that is non-conductive for go measure if nothing else.
