Hi ill be getting the E6400 Core 2 Duo soon and just wondering if this cpu is locked and if it is what is the highest multiplier.
At the moment ive got a AMD 3400, stock speed 2.20 and im running it at 2.42.
Im a bit confused on the CPU NB link speed and SB what do these actully mean, is it worth clocking these or wont it make a diffrence.
The E6400 multiplier is 8X and is locked upwards. Most of the common overclocker motherboards will allow you to drop down to either 7X or 6X (although I doubt you'll want to go lower).
My motherboard don't have N/B link speed, so I can't answer that question.

thanks batoby, so in order to overclock the cpu ill have to do it the FSB way right?
Yeppers. For example, the E6400 should fairly easily handle 400 FSB (3.2 gig) with decent cooling (default is 8X266). Hopefully you have or plan to get decent RAM.

yep im thinking about this ram http://www.microdirect.co.uk/ProductInfo.aspx?ProductID=14777&GroupID=1735
what do you think?
The Geil in your link should work fine. You need good RAM, but not necessarily great RAM because of the 8x multiplier in the E6400.

Bobad whats your definition as great ram compared to good ram?
If i do want to overclock it a bit i will need pretty good ram becuase i will need to clock it from the FSB.

Anything with Micron D9 IC's is considered great ram. What type of cooling do you plan on using? It may not even be worht it to get some Micron based ram if you can't run that high of a FSB.

The Hiper Type R is decent, for a similar price I'd be really tempted to choose the Corsair 520 though, or for about 20 pounds more you have more great options like the Corsair 620W and other Seasonic models - the S12 600W - from that same shop.

ok cool, what about them cases are they good for that price?
E6400 great overclocker. Finally came back to Intel after over 6years with AMD. Have my 6400 running at 3.2ghz on stock vcore. Stable as can be and temps are the same as it was running at 2.13 speed.
Fantastic chip. Using the Asus P5W-DH
my 6400 runs at 2665mhz on 333fsb perfectly.. i was so stupid to buy a MSI P965 Neo-F.. it cant go higher then 333FSB... ordered a P5B deluxe this morning.
