I have athlon 1500+ xp, shuttle ak31 kt266, thermalright SK-6, all copper heatsink with delta 60X60X25 38CFM fan, as well as a case fan. I used artic silver premium thermal compound. Yet my system temperature is 95 F and cpu temperature is 109 F. Are these ideal temperatures for my hardware? Would it be harmful to slap on more artic silver on the cpu?

thank you in advance

That is pretty high for that hsf but not outrageous. What ever you do don't put more asII on it that will hurt performance. You want a paper thin layer.

What your post tells me is that you need to get more air circulating through your case, clean up the wires so that air can flow freely.

How many case fans do you have?

Your system temp is the temp inside your case. You need to get enough air going through your case to keep it close to room temp.

Right now your hsf is keeping your cpu 14 degrees above your system temp if you can get that down to 75 or 80 your cpu temp should drop as well.

look through the cooling forum and you will be able to find out how to get your case temp down.

Edit* Welcome to the forums.

I have only one case fan, and pci slot fan which is placed underneath the video card. What is the average ideal temperature for the athlon running at 1.36 gig ?

thanks

You need more case fans in order to keep an AMD system cool and that one fan doesn't give you the proper airflow. You need at least one fan in the front (lower bottom) and in the rear (just under the powersupply.

There are a lot of variable's that make it hard to give an idle temp (room temp etc...). I would say that you should be able to keep that chip at about 45 degrees Celsius or so and that's under full load. Probably about 35 or so at idle.
