View Full Version : Lapped Tuniq
Alright lets get this question out of the way, does lapping the Tuniq make a noticeable enough difference to even do it? Noctua explains on their site that the rough surface is intentional for better contact with the arctic silver or thermal paste, but I could imagine the lapped surface providing more contact.

Well, I will find out on Saturday, although my temps have gotten a bit better (maybe the AS5 has cured as I was told by another member would happen).
Anyway I still plan on lapping my Tuniq and I will let you know if it makes any improvement.

I have heard of 1 to 2 degrees as a typical improvement in temps. You may get better if you by chance have a really bad block. Also check your IHS to see if it is flat. Someone on xtremesystems lapped there unlevel IHS on a e64 and lost 10-15 degrees on load.

It's not just the rough surface, the base on mine was not even close to flat. It's kinda thin in the grooves for the heatpipes so it's pretty easy to warp it when mounting the base. I lapped mine without removing the base, kinda tricky but I didn't want it warping again remounting.
BTW this isn't really the right section for this question ;)
