Different PIII's have different OC potential. Here's an example.
I have two Dells -- one is a PIII (Katmai) 500 MHz and the other a PIII (Katmai) 450 MHz. Identical mobos (SE440BX-3), chipset, clock generator, and RAM (256 MB PC133). Both CPUs are SECC Slot 1.
Using CPUFSB, I OC'd the 450 MHz CPU to 560 MHz. Very stable, no problems. :)
However, I was only able to OC the 500 MHz CPU to 513 MHz! :(
Go figure. Two identical machines, except for the CPU. My 450 MHz machine now runs faster than my 500 MHz machine!
The only other difference is OS, the 450 MHz is a Win98se box, and the 500 MHz is an NT4 box. But I've never heard that OS makes a difference.
