Well, santa brought me a nice new E6600 this year :santa: , so it was time to pull out my beloved 4 Ghz Celly D 326 and throw in my new chip. My chip was a week 32 and had a stock voltage of 1.325.

So, I throw in my C2D last night and played around with clocks for almost 2 hours. I wanted to hit 3.6Ghz (400 * 9) but heat and voltage limited me. I am now running at 3.4Ghz (378 * 9) with 1.4 Vcore and max load orthos temps of 57C in Core Temp.

I am quite happy with both those temps and that Voltage, so i will probably stay here (until i get the itch again anyways). I haven't run orthos for too long yet, I'm doing that now while I'm at work. I'll post some screenies after I get through a few hours of testing. :)

BTW, I must say I'm impressed with my DS3. I turned down the multiplier to 6 and ran it at 400x6 (stock internal speed) for a little while. The DS3 seems happy to run at 400 without any increase to the FSB voltage... Didnt try to go any further than that, but it was nice to see.

Well... I successfully ran Orthos for 4 hours no problem. I stopped it there. Temps hit 60C max.

So the chip is stable at 3.4 w/ 1.4 vcore... SO, I'm going to go about it a little different. Instead of runnin 378 * 9, I'm going to try for 425 * 8 to get a little more memory bandwidth out of it.

I've had this ddr running at 422 w/ 4-4-4-12 timings, so hopefully I can hit 425 at the same. The mobo should have no problems with it.

So.. I'll be working on this when i get home today :) I'll run some benchies tonight too. Right now, my best super pi run at 3.4 Ghz is 15.140 (1 Mil) Beats the hell out of the 41 that my 4Ghz celly ran at.

ACK!

A 300W PSU? An old compaq one on top of that?

I'd be afraid to fry the (seemingly) good components you have. (EDIT: This isn't a slam...I mean as far as their OCing ability...sounded bad when I reread it.)

Impressive results so far...I'm kind of surprised to see that you are essentially temp limited with an XP-120 though. Using the 8x multi for memory bandwidth isn't a bad idea...

What were your temps with the Celly? Were they that high too?

Yep... the Celly would get to 64C on an Orthos run. That was a 58% overclock though.. It was the older 90nm architecture (prescott?), so that didnt help.

Also, i have a low speed (silent) 120mm on the Ultra 120. I could probably bring it down with a faster fan...

Edit:

Here's where I am now:

Alright, i'm now running at 425 * 8 to get some higher FSB :) Same memory timings (turned the multiplier down a peg on my 6600).

Anyways, here's my previous 3dmark05 results w/ the Celeron D at 4Ghz:

Here it is with the E6600 at 3.4Ghz:

Look at that CPU score difference!
