( i was bored and noticed this)

I dont know about anybody else but I have seen an increase of posts about Slot A athlons on the forums...

These cpus may be old and few, but they can still put up a fight.

to bad they are not made anymore...2 generations behind...

thats right, but somebody is stilll consider overclocking their Slot A, like me:D haha...i still wanna find out how far i can push it. b4 i build a new system...i think with the right cooling stuff and GFD, they can still throw a few punches...:eh?:

yes indeed, and in the process not only do u push the processor, you push the motherboard as well with the fsb, I mean today I beat Max Payne, and the whole time I played 1024x768x32x32, no problems at all except getting blown away buy more bullets than I could possibly count. And cupled with Tribes 2 and Win2k, and even a hosting a 56k server for 3 peeps and 7 bots, this 550 at 611 chugs along proudly.

come on I know there are more people here with slot a athlons...

yup!!right here..

lovem..

I just bought a 750 tbird slot A, and a new Abit KA7 mobo for it..

cuz it supports pc133 ram... and agp 4x
and the soft menu III has a ton of choices i"m lost in..
still trying to figure all this crap out...

Angry

Is the 750 thunderbird running in that ABit KA7?
The Abit website says they dont support them at all...
Im getting a 900tbird and praying it will work in this board..just did bios update and seems to be fine.
Im going to have to get FP2000 again and make a wabpage for us Slot a guys....

yeah I read that too, AFTER the board was in the mail..

*shakes head*
I had an old irongate chipset and was runnign my t-bird on that...

so I had figured newer chipset hasta support it..

well It's in right now...still fiddling with it..

on my old board I got upto 9.5x100 out of my 7.5x100
on this one I haven't got it to post past 8.5 multiplier,
tho I'm having better luck with FSB and memory scores..

but Abit says it supports upto 1ghz, but does not support .18 micron cores or T-birds..
but there's no way u can get a .25 core past 700 I think...

and my old 650 was a .18 micron, and both have workd in this KA7...
but I'm having driver issues in XP, I don't wanna re-install the OS
but it seems ok in ME and linux..

(i have tri-boot)

Sounds like your average mobo swap...Im still decideing on which slot A mobo i should get, im keeping this one if the 900 tbird works, and if it does ill get another one, if not im searching..2 slot a systems this christmas..wish u luck with yours.
900mhz tbirds are on pricewatch, have to search for 900 slot A though...

if your slot a mobo comes with the kx-133 chipset
then your in luck.
you can switch to vc-pc-166 ram
syncmax vc-pc166 ram
seller: concord idea
tel # 1-905-513-7686
fax # 1-905-513-9572

What will this help with exactly?

good luck with the kx133 chipset and the t bird.i have a soyo with that set and it wont even post with my t bird 750 slot a.on the other hand i just got an fic sd11(iron gate)and the little bird runs fine at 900:D

the irongate is the only chipset that works with the slotted birds as per AMD.some have luck with the kx133...i didnt although my 650 classic runs great at 808 on it:D

for the prices i may put a couple more together(i do a little seti farming)ithink i have $80 in the t bird setup and a bout the same into the classic system...not including the gfd's.funny thing is that the classic system out crunches the t bird at seti.i think its the memory bandwidth on the kx133

consider this ram to be a 4 cylinder engine
with two turbo`s attached to it
1st from idle to 3000rpm
the 2nd from 3000rpm to redline

I once oc'ed my 750 to 1024.

ya i had a irongate chipset AMD 751, and a classic 600 chipped it and then got a tbird 750, slot with the on die cache, was a nice improvement. Was my first rig adn had lost of fun messing with it.

okay...i get it now from your pm, i can reach a higher mem bus unless its teh chipset maxing at 149mhz.

Anyway, this very cpu was my first cpu that I overclocked..learned most of my stuff from it...first quake machine as well. Then went to Kt7a 1ghz athlon, board fried, being picky about what i get :D to replace it,(plus haveing to use mula for gas) this Athlon 550 is doing the job nicely so far...wish AMD still supported them and the cpus easier to find.

KX133 is ok so far..

my memory bandwidth is hella higher..

old my old board I got 115-118 mhz on my mem..

now I can run it upto 150mhz without slowin it down..

oh and if I don't use the HSTCLK+PCICLK for the ram,
I can get the cpu into the GHZ!!

my sandra scores are higher than ever!

750 hit 1000 something, still got some bugs to work out..

my ATI has gone retarded in XP, so I have to boot into ME...

but I think I have to format reinstall,

plus it supports 4 way interleave, 4x agp, seperate voltages for I/O and Core...

and I think I can even overclock the north and south bridge independantly...

my only complaint is that they put the nortbridge right next to the SLOT, so my HSF hangs right over it and blocks off the northbridge heatsink from getting much air...

anyone know where I can get a SLOT A waterblock?

thats all i could find..everybody else seems to be building thier own.

hey what are your memory scores in sisoft?
I get 404/482 Cas 2, 147mhz

Kato
12-02-01, 01:18 PM
mines are 403/440, 117mhz
my fsb is 117, so thats mean my rams are 117mhz too, right?
and what is that "cas 2"
i'm new to oc, so i dunno know about that #:(

Ottoman
12-02-01, 01:27 PM
well it looks like I'm SOL, on a pre-fab water block than...
cuz I'm not mailordering from Australia to Canada..

"Cas' stands for Cas latency..

basically it's the delay it takes for your ram to get accessed or something along those lines..

Cas 2 being 2 ns, and 3 being 3 ns...

well I'm still 'tweaking'
but off the bat..
my system is at 8.5x109=928
ram is at 145.5 mhz...
and I have ram speeds cranked to full

I score 450/553...

but i think I could squeeze more out of it no probs..

Kato
12-02-01, 02:06 PM
oh, so basily the low the ns the better?
i just checked in the bios, and i can set the ram mhz to 147....this is how i can oc the ram, right?:D

Ottoman
12-02-01, 02:21 PM
well it depends on your ram..

if u check in sandra it'll tell u your type of ram, and how fast it can go at each CL...

for example, my stick of 128 spectek is CL3 upto 133, and CL2 upto 100

and my newer stick of 256 spectek is CL3 upto 143 and CL2 upto 133...

so naturally I tore out the 128, took size hit, and settled for speed..

and they way my ram speed is set is a the ram either goes at bus speed (HSTCLK) or it goes at bus speed plus PCI speed (PCICLK)

so mine right now is 110 + (109/3)=146mhz
so the higher I raise my bus the higher both go..

If I turn go just HSTCLK than I can hit 1ghz on my bus... but my ram performance is lower...

Kato
12-02-01, 02:47 PM
thanks...i've checked it in sandra, and it said all my rams can run at CL3 at 133, and CL2 at 100....one question, i've check everywhere in the Bios, and couldn't find where i can change the CL....where i should look for?

hehe
Sandra tellz me cas 3 up to only 100mhz, but im runing cas 2 at 147mhz! talk about a ram overclock.

Also im wondering how you got your scores so high,Ottoman

the_dog
12-02-01, 03:25 PM
428/538 this is the 650 at 800 no extra fsb

not bad,and not quite sure what i have the settings at.i know it is host +33 so ram is at 133 dont know what the cas is,i would think the timings are good:)

the t bird on the sd11 didn't get this kind of score:(

Ottoman

ram choices are usually in your advanced chipset are under bios..

In My SOFTMENU III,
it's got bank speeds. 10 ns 8 ns, normal medim fast and turbo..
I set it on turbo
turn memory interleave to 4 way.
turn something delay to zero

put up my I/O voltage..
HSTCLK+PCICLK

and some other stuff I can't remember off the top of my head...

but yeah I was surprised at how hight they got...

but sadly I keep getting this weird errors in XP when it try loading my ATI drivers, so I can't run XP or 3mark2001 so I can't compare my scores..
dunno if it's cuz I went 4in1 from irongate, that I have to reinstall windows or some crap...

b4 my mobo swap I had 3541 on it..
but with more memory bandwidth I think I could score better...

Well..im going to get the tbird AFTER i get a duron 1gig (morgan core duron) and my 1gig athlon (tbird core), the slot A system will be done last...I hopeing I wont have to get a new board..as I will be buying 2 others, and all the other goodies in a system. ugh I need a job..
