Hi ill be getting the E6400 Core 2 Duo Processor soon as many of you know,
anyway ive heard quite alot of talk about the Cpu fan that comes with it not being up to scratch is this true?
If it is would someone be so kind in leading me to one that would do me justice possibly overclockers.co.uk.
would you also mind telling me what to look for when buying a fan that will do what is intended to and is very reliable.
thank you

Here is a thread on the use of Zalman 9700 on E6400 & E6600. I have a rig with Zalman on a Pent D 830chip running at 3.6 GHz, very quiet and effective. My new rig has a E6400 with water cooling, I just had to get a water cooler, works very well, much better than air, somewhat labor intesive if you swop mobos and chips, but a lot of cooling.

oh yes that looks very promising thanks for that.
What about the heatsink that you get with the Cpu is that any good or is it worth changing that too?

Well the fan and heatsink in both cases are combined in one unit, I've never used any stock heatsink-fans I bought with the CPU, they only cool effectively if you do not overclock, I presume you would want to turn the juice up on your E6400, after all that is what it was designed for....:)

If you are not going to overclock your processor past 3 ghz then go ahead and use the stock cooler. If you plan on a little more then 3 Ghz get and artic cooler freezer 7. If you are gonna try higher then 3.4 then go for a Thermalright Ultra-120, Tuniq Tower, or a Thermaltake Big Typhoon
