I have seeing weird slow down of my system. I am observing more than 1 image name of iexplore.exe open when I look into the Windows Task Manager. It's taxing my CPU.

How many should be open??

I am unsure if this is related..but here goes...I got 3 Trojans, which NAV2003 promptly deleted (I scanned later and found no viruses). Then my AOL icon in the system tray at some point later turned from the blue symbol, to the Microsoft white window w/blue title bar in the System tray on the left. I was having problems w/NAV maintaining the correct date when updated w/new definitions, so I removed it, and reinstalled. Then for some unknown reason there were 45 iexplore.exe that I found open in the Windows Task Manager. I restarted my computer, they disappeared....Now things "SEEM" OK, but I found 3 more iexplore.exe w/out doing anythign but opening Firefox w/one window.

Btw my drive isn't fragmented beyond 3%, and out of 160gigs, there is 30gigs available.

Now I have TEN iexplore.exe open in the Task Manager..what the hell is going on???

I'd like to add that when I try and open Internet Explorer, it opens, freezes completely, and then tries to connect to the following 64.236.16.52 then I get more explore.exe

Any ideas?

I'd say you definitely have some sort of trojan or something.

You could try upgrading to a newer version of antivirus.

I'd recommend you go to an online scanner and use that first.

any one of these should work (or you can try all three if you wish)

I use trendmicro's PC-cillin Internet security suite. I like it. But anyway:

Download that ^

You can 'unselect' everything but Norton AV 2005 (unless there's anything else you want)

That will give you a free 6 month copy of NAV2005.

1 of explorer.exe
and iexplore.exe are the browser application, so how many U've opened them, the same number should be in your task manager. Just kill all the iexplore.exe processes and try to launch IE again :)

I think you right...I already have 20 o fthem open and only Firefox windows open at 2, with like 2 tabs each. This is crazy...Thanks for the links...I can barely type now.
