IDE Controlers

I whant to buy a IDE controler to hook up more HD's but im not sure what to get i have a choice in theres

Promise ATA-66 stk1109 Info $40.00
Promise ATA-100 stk4990 Info $61.80
Promise ATA-66 Raid stk9249 Info $97.85
Promise ATA-100 Raid stk8880 Info $159.65
Maxtor ATA-100 stk10218 Info $72.10

But what should i pick?

and also what is a IDE REMOVEABLE TRAY
Im not sure...corect me if im rong but its a "TRAY" that goes in a CD's slot on the face of the tower and well you can remove it right? LOL :beer:

I think MAXTOR makes crap drives, SO. IDE removable trays are like drawers that sit in the 5.5 bay that you use to swap in and out HDs that are mounted in jacked boxes, seen a lot of problems with these
no better security, u just un jack/pull out your drive at the end of the day/shove it in the safe, etc also nice to have one good drive then jack in another to play with change OS test install ,etc

Witch you buy depends on what you need.

Maxtor ATA-100 stk10218 Info $72.10
all of these are like the hd connectors on your motherboard the ata66 one can only handle drives up to ata66.

Promise ATA-66 Raid stk9249 Info $97.85
Promise ATA-100 Raid stk8880 Info $159.65
these will run various flavors of raid as well as what the other ones do. If you need to run raid you will need one of these or another brand that handles raid. If you just need to add hard disls then any of the first bunch will work.

Handel Ata 100? My HD is ATA 100 so i will lose speed if i get the ATA-66 right? not much but its a Dif?

Get the promise controller. The tray make sure there are at least 2 fans inside and best if it's alluminum

Maxtor and Promise both make good ATA 100 controllers.
But get the promise because it's cheaper
