Hey guys, I was clicking around off someone's heatsink links posted below, and stumbled across this......

It's a still.... (http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/3569/booze/spirit.htm)

But lookie at that column, it's full of marbles! Lots of surface area! Probably "breathes" pretty good too! I'm just so awed still what a neat idea it is.

Of course for a water tower we is completely turning the idea around, but things is like that, eg heater cores<>radiators.

Hope someone gets a killer cooler going on this principle, dunno if I can find time to experiment here for a month or two myself.
regards,

we are really trying to do the opposide, and most of the condensing is done by the water jacket and the results can be got without the marble bit. if the marbles were ball bearings though and they were on a peltier at the bottem...

I was meaning like a bong, take a bong cooler with a sprinkler up top and add marbles, makes lots of surface area for the water to evaporate off, not condense on. Like ummm who was it in the article on the main site was trying to do with scotchbrite pads.

"Alcohol 10 - 60%
You can only get caught for having a still if you have a still. You can get strong alcohol without a still, if you have a chest freezer. Drop a plastic 25 litre jerry can full of mash (wine etc.) into the freezer and leave it for 48 hours. All the water will freeze, but the alcohol will not. Simply pour out the alochol from the ice-cube and leave it to drain for a couple of hours. Sugar will also come out with the alcohol, so the mash should be made a little lean in sugar so that it is mostly converted to alcohol.

Good results can be had using this method to make liquors, try chucking a tin of pineaple chunks in syrup into the mash during fermentation. If there is any preservative in the tin then bring the chunks and syrup to the boil before lobbing them into the brewing bin. For god sake, open the tin before boiling!!"

Is this really an appropiate link?

er... yeh, as said on the site it is only for research and it intorduces some noew ideas, personally thought i would prefer to use brillow pads as they have more surface area and are cheeper, but if you want a cool looking bong...

Well depends where you are, don't think it's illegal here, unless you're selling it, the scandinavians are hard on it, the arabs are too, but then are you gonna ban every reference to even just alcohol in a cooling system because some places it's illegal???

I was saying, "look at this design, we can do something with it for cooling" if we're gonna take the "illegal uses" track, why does this place even have an area where CD burners may be discussed.

I'm an adult dammit and I want to live in an adult world.

Oh kids..... was still typing when you posted,

Hmmmm wonder how many there are still around that haven't been electrocuted by PSU mods, poisoned by the antifreeze in the water coolers, burned badly while trying to make waterblocks on the stove ...... not to mention those who get seriously beaten for blowing up daddy's new P4....

maybe we need some advisories posted.

Merely stating that it could well be in-appropiatee content for kids on this website.

It could be used for harmful porpose's, just making sure people know. After all we have to set an example eh?

HA HA Unlikely!:D

Hey, I'm under 21 and I'd never even try that for anything other than cooling purposes, but I'm glad you posted the link!

I'm looking into a liquid cooling solution other than water, so you could guess alcohol crossed my mind more than once and my parents didn't have a problem with that, as long I didn't try and drink it (which would be pretty stupid considering ethynol is poisonious). So this is actually something that I would like to know about. This would be perfect for what i want to try, but I don't know if I'd have the time or nerve to try. :burn:

We'll see though, if I try it I'll definitely post my results and how i did it here. ;)

Adding the marbles would be an interesting idea... I don't see a problem with someone linking to that site... It's not like any of the kids on here couldn't spend 2 seconds searching google and find the same site if not many others... As far as the floating cannibus leaves in the avatar above though... I'm not sure if that's cool...
Peace

. . . on a site that features step-by-step instructions for making bongs? :)

It's an interesting idea, but a decent showerhead (http://neatitems.com/aussie_shower.htm) should give enough surface area to your water as it falls.
I'm not sure how many marbles that would take, but my guess is that the marbles and the mechanism to hold them in place would be more complex and expensive than a US$13 showerhead, and would not give you significantly better results. JMHO.

Just thinkin will there ever be flow problems?

Hey! I happen to like my floating cannibus leaves! lol, it's just there because it's funny, not becasue I promote smoking pot. Besides, I think any kid (like myself) visiting this site would be smart enough to know weed is bad (but bong's are fun to make.... cooling bongs I mean :)) and drinking pure alcohol is just asking to get alcohol poisoning, which is beyond stupidity. And I'd have to agree with one of the earlier posts, your calling a LINK to how to make still inappropriate and we give step-by-step instructions on how to make homemade bongs, give me a break.
