I am looking to buy a video card, until now I have had an onboard video card (Sis 730) but lately I've been doing a lot of gaming and I've noticed the graphics on my computer aren't as smooth as on my friend's computer, even tho I have 1.2 ghz and he has only 500 mhz.

Anyways I saw a 3D Prophet 4000 XT for $99 (canadian) and I was wondering if this is a good card. They also had a 3D prophet 4500 for $149, is that a better deal than the $99 one? I have a Athlon 1.2 ghz and 320 mb pc133 ram. I use my computer only for web surfing, word processing, and gaming. I want the best card I can get for gaming in the under $200 range (canadian) because I'm a bit short on money right now.

Oh yeah, and I also have a S3 Savage4 GT 8mb pci card in my Pentium 1. Would this card outperform the onboard Sis 730? I'm assuming no.

the 4000 XT uses the Kyro I chipset
it is a good low spec board and will perform a LOT better than the onboard you have
onboard is the worst video card u can get
even that old 8mb card will probably beat it

the 4500 XT uses the Kyro II chipset and this is a very decent card
it outperforms most Geforce 2Mx's and rivals the GTS

it comes down to price
want to go as cheap as possible with decent performance: go the 4000 XT
want to pay a little more and get more performance: get the 4500 XT

Well I did some research and it looks like the Kyro II is the best bang for the buck you can get. It's only shortcoming is no hardware T&L, however the Kyro 3 will have that when it comes out. I think I will wait until the Kyro III comes out and see how expensive it is, if I can find one for under $200 then I'll get it, otherwise I'll get the Kyro II.
