the max i can do is like 480/1.3 with a zalman cooler on it that keeps temps extremely low even during atitool artifact search. So its not a temp problem, im guessing its a voltage problem as my 12v is more like 11.84 . So is it safe to assume that a volt mod would get me in the 550/1.45 range. If so, anyone here done it and what were the results?

I did a bios voltmod on my 7800GT using this guide.

http://www.planetamd64.com/lofiversion/index.php/t15247.html

It says it probably wont work with the 7800GTX, but there is no harm in trying. I have an EVGA 7800GT OC so the factory settings are 470/1100. Before the volt mod I scanned for optimum OC and actually got 456/1250. Clocking my memory that high caused artifacts right away. And the core wouldnt pass the test higher than 476. Leaving the memory at 1200 seemed to fix the artifacts, and after the voltmod my core went up to 498 passing the OC test. Currently I'm at 500/1200 without artifacts and quite happy, though my load temps are as high as 66C on the stock cooler. I just invested in a new zalman cooler so hopefully it will drop some.

another suggestions frozen wing is to remove the 40mhz delta clock in the bios for 3d mode. I have my 7800 525/1200.

Well, given how your 12v isn't at 12v i wouldn't think it would be wise to voltmod the card. Now My old card in my sig, specs are there too, did awesome for oc'ing. I'm pretty sure not all the 7800gtx's were equal, i heard that they can be very picky. I think i recall an issue with some asus 7800gtxs hating to overclock at all...also some msi versions. Anyhow back to your original question, it all depends on what the card does now....i doubt adding some voltage will get you that high....it might just fry something.

Hmmm...

Is that in the video card bios or mobo bios? I'm gonna go check on it really quick. Also, what exactly does the 40mhz delta clock do?

Edit:

In nibitor on the first tab I see the Geometric Delta Clock box next to the timings. The box is currently empty, so should I just leave it blank?

Ok yeah leave it empty. what it does is say your card is 470 core stock, it actually makes the core run 510 under 3d mode so what happens is you get too say 500 overclock on your core and it puts the 40mhz delta clock in and makes it 540mhz core and this causes it to run too fast.

Yeah I read that in a little guide I found. I decided just to leave it blank. Sorry for the thread jack :)
