View Full Version : God Bless Housefans
My CPU was running a bit hot and I haven't got around to buying a new heatsink yet so I tried something different
Took just an ordinary house fan (approx 8 inches diameter) and set it outside my case blowing in
I went from 57 idle/66 load
to
45 idle/ 48 load
I'm running a 1.4 athlon with a 1.8vcore and only using a volcano2 heatsink and a 80mm cpu fan (had it left over)
Oh and one more thing my mobo is now at the ambient temp or only 1 degree above with load

Yup, I'm using one for cooling my monitor at the moment too. :D

How are you checking your temps? I am sure the house fan will cool the chip some, but don't you think it's actually cooling the thermosistor the most, and not very reflective of the actual chip temps?
Just curious.

This might be true if he's blowing the backside of the motherboard but I'm pretty sure that he's getting at least somewhat better cooling with the housefan blowing in. The Volcano2 is a pretty cruddy heatsink for a 1.4 TBird... you really need something better, especially since you're running over stock voltage.

Yeah i'm gonna get a new HS one of these days, like I said I just haven't got around to it
and although it's not the best temps they aren't bad so there isn't any hurry

Just watch how close you get that thing to your HDD's. They create a fairly intense electro-magnetic field around them when they're turned on.
LOL didn't think about that
You should see what my phone does to my monitor, it makes everything dance

As long as it's not too close you should be ok.
