well there's always the old star trek armada, but nothing really compares to how good homeworld is.

Funny you should mention HW2. I reinstalled it on Friday after I got my second 6600GT set up and having a blast. I'm editing the List files to give me varying ships at the start of a mission. It gives you...interesting results.

I think they screwed up HW2 though. Plot was cheap, game was far too short. Not enough depth. HW1 and Cataclysm have an awesome, in-depth storyline imo....

sword of the stars is fun once you get the hang of the UI. I need to reload HW2 and do like Gabber is. Edit the List file to give myself an obscene armada at the start.

Too bad it gets picky on giving you ships before you unlock them IIRC.

Nothing comes close to Homeworld...its gold IMO.

BUT Sword of the Stars in multiplayer with friends is AWESOME. My buddy and I play it using ventrilo, and are having a blast.

Well I think the best option is that I'm just going to try out a bunch of mods for homeworld 2--theres some mods that add a **** load of new ships e.t.c./upgrades-and even a couple mods that add a whole new race to hw2! :)

HW1 > HW2 imo. Homeworld 2 is obviously an improved/revised installment, but the original homeworld revolutionized 3d based space RTS games. HW Cataclysm was kinda wierd but I still thought it was fun.

And there isn't going to be a HW 3. At least not by Relic. Sierra, which is now part of Vivendi Games, owns the rights to the HW franchise. Relic is now owned by THQ. So Relic can't make an HW game if they wanted to, and honestly as great as HW is, Vivendi has no incentive to make another one.

seems that relic is putting a lot of energy into the dawn of war series--with the 2 expansions (1 produced and one coming out soon). I'm curious what relics next game series is going to be.
The dawn of war games are just so cool imo. So well made.

Isnt there a game coming out that is almost literaly is HW, but not quite? Everything is the same except in actual name? I could have sworn that there was once coming out.

I got a game called ORB (Offworld recource base) a long while back.

I don't remember it being the most incredible game ever but it wasn't bad as I recall ...

Were you thinking of Nexus the Jupiter Incident?

I tried sword of the stars but i thought it sucked monkeyballs, crappy interface, crappy invention systems and sucky graphics.

Eve online (MMORPG, see sticky) has some relevance in graphics and gameplay. Alot of ship models are based on homeworld 2 / star trek / star ars designs. (see here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spaceships_of_EVE_Online)) Other then that, your options are limited to the examples above...HW2 just stands out in the crowd, and i seriously hope we're gonna see a HW3 (when sierra buys back the rights).

I downloaded some beta off fileplanet named Genesis Rising that is very similar to HW. 3D RTS it seems. Even the ships seemed similar. I only played a mission or two.

Yeah HW rules. I played the whole series like 5 times.

A friend told me the X series are like HW. But don't take my word for it.. never played it.

No those games are a completely different genre than Homeworld.
