View Full Version : Win2k Pro did not like Via4in1 4.35s
I installed them first in WinMe, the 4.35s I went from the 4.05's or something ( I know very old) and WinMe refused to boot normaly, I had to boot up in safe mode...then do a system store to a point before i installed the 4.35's...So I thought it was just WinMe, I installed then in Win2k...well now Win2k refuses to start!!!
It will get halfway and lock, I went in 2k safemode and installed from the old ones, but that didnt work, It was rather fast and didnt ask to replace files...so Im thinking it didnt switch them because there was a newer version installed...
So how do I fix Win2k..it only boots in safe mode?
u can try at your own risk boot up in safe mode right click my computer click on manage click on device manager open the system devicies icon and remove the via pci bridge, reboot and then let 2k instal its via drivers, then run ntbackup, create ann ERD, with regestry backup option, then fool around with new system driver up dates
you could also try first go into the device manaager and uninstall/delete your offending via driver then reboot and see
Well you can try reformating I bet that'll definitely work.
I'm guessing you had some faulty stuff in Windows ME which you upgraded to Win2K and it still stayed there.
I wouldn't recommend upgrade operating systems, try a fresh clean install. Either boot from your CD or from the 4disk Win2K bootdisks which you can download at http://www.bootdisk.com
if you run the setup program youll get the options to remove the drivers, try removing the IDE one.
Whoops should have said that i am dual booting between WinMe and Win2kpro, I would have to be very brave if I went fro Me to 2000.... I also I haev all boot disks, Win95, Win98, WinMe, And Win2k pro...(all 4) you can never be to prepared. I have Win2k on its own partition, Me is also on its own. I will let you guys know how it goes.
