View Full Version : passive-cooled ponderings
my celly 600@1062 (todays speed) is icy-cool but the noise is getting right on my tits. what i was considering was taking the heatsink fan off and ducting the rear exhaust fan over the CPU, with a makeshift shroud on the sink, sucking the hot air off
i may have to clock back a tad to achieve this quiet utopia, but it'd be worth it imo.
can anyone see any problems with what i have described (ok so the description is poor)

My Dell uses passive cooling like that, the temps are a little higher than I'd like, but still OK. Not good for OCing though.

Looks ok, but can your blower really suck the air off that well? You might have to use a Delta to be able to suck the air off, and that would be louder again... Don't cover all the HSF wif the duct though as there has to be some air to suck!!!
Or try the 80mm>60mm adapter from www.overclockingstore.co.uk
And stick a quiet fan on your HSF that still blows out more than your 60MM one!
