Hi,

I'm looking for a card to replace the s540 junker i'm running at the moment.

I play games from time to time but i'm not an avid gamer. I'm looking for a decent card but reasonably priced.

Do you think the radeon 7200 would be a reasonable card?

Basically I'd like to be able to run Return to castle wolfeinstien eheh. :)

Any advice on a mid range, decent card would be great!!

its a good card but for the price (around 60$) you could get a RadeonLE for 60$, or a Geforce2GTS for 65$, those are much better choices...

If your not looking to spend a lot of money then the best choice for you will have to be a gforce2 or a tnt m64.

STAY WITH NVIDEA

excuse me, but are you really suggesting a tnt2 m64 over a RadeonDDR? im sorry but the Radeon would eat it for lunch, also it would eat an MX for lunch, so would the GTS, and the KyroII, all for around 60 dollars, also do you have any logical reason for saying "Stay with Nvidia" or do you just feel that way, because buying a TNT2 at this point is really a Rip-off and not a mart thing to do because it will be out of date very quickly and theres no use in upgrading if you cant play newer games...

Nope. I was just giving him a good choice for the kind of money he is willing or wanting to pay as you can see he doesnt want to spend a lot and he isnt a hardcore gamer either,so why pay so much for something he will hardly use?

well lets look at some prices shall we?
PriceWath:
Visiontek TNT2 M64=40$
Visiontek GTS-v= 60$
Radeon32mbDDR= 65$
KyroII= 66$

now tell me why he wouldnt pay 20$ more to get at least twice the performance?

I never said he wouldnt....
I was simply giving advice to someone else on "CHEAP" but ok 3d cards.

TNT 2 M64 is NOT an ok choice to buy new. It would not be logical at all. It's not even the regular TNT2 chipset that's probably 4 years old by now.

A geforce 2 that isn't an mx-200 is ok. Any of the radeons excluding the VE are ok. You have a wide range if you just need to play RTCW if you have a decent cpu.

Radeon 7500. I think that's what i'll go with.

It's looks like a sweet card. And the price is right.

Is this a good choice??

yes it is, its performance seems to be between a Geforce2 Pro and an Ultra (closer to the Ultra) i would get it if you can find it for 110$...

look at priceatch, its going for about 108$ for 10 dollars more it is significantly bettert than the Geforce2 Pro....but if you wany dual-head technologoy then its 120 at newegg, but regular is 108...

Only problem with newegg is that i live in Canada. They don't ship out here.

anyway, thanks for the advice.

Too bad newegg doesn't ship international.

The Kyro II is a great card. I've been doing some research on it and it looks like this is the card I'm going to buy. It doesn't have hardware T&L (I don't even know what that is) but that doesn't matter because there are no games out yet which need hardware T&L, and there probably won't be for a little while. If you can find the Kyro II for around $100 in Canada then you should get it.

max payne has a very high cpu utiization and it needs hardwaret&L to run well....allso Unreal2 will need it, and most new games, will....a KyroII at this point would be outdated very quickly...

That sucks. Kyro 3 will have hardware T&L only I don't know when it will be out and how much it will cost.

Personally..

I Think you should get the following:

GeForce 2 MX 400 64MB

You can get it for like 60-65 Bucks from

You'll have 100 Frames on Counter-Strike, Best card for the buck.

I think that if you want to go with the 7500 that would be a great card for the following reasons:

1. It can handle anything at the moment and alot in the future
2. It is ATI, therefore, it will have some quality 2D performance

The 3rd is important because you don't use your computer for much gaming. For that reason, I believe your needs will be met quite well with the 7500. Good choice. :)

Oh, and the gts would be better than the same priced mx400. I am guessing you did not know the gts has gotten that cheap.:)

also if you read the posts by Cisco Kid, his oced 7500 is doing some butt kicking to the Gf2 Ultras, people who say this card isnt worth the money are crazy, because you can get almost Ultra performance for 80 less dollars.....sorry Ritteri, but i think ATI now has the best deal on a gaming card....

theflycore, look at pricewatch, there are two companies selling the 7500 internationally with 109$ prices....i would pay 120 to get the nice DVI though (looks like flatpanels are the way of the future)....

Well, thanks for the posts guys. I'll check out these 2 international companies and see how they are rated before I buy.

I can't wait for a new card to replace this crapper i've got.

of course not in QuakeIII, but how about Max Payne, or RTCW, or Unreal2, theres no use in buying a card that will be out of date so soon.....buying an mx made sense a year ago, it just doesnt any more....
