Well, I got bored and decided to give nfs high stakes another try..not remembering why I quit playing it.
Now I remember..the game takes forever to load,(slower than PS1) and it ain't very configureable, the opponents seem to be able to spin me out of the way, but I can't do it to them, unless I run 'em into a wall or tree, and half the time I'm the one hitting the wall, and in "career play" where you actualy load a character and stick with it, you go through a couple of races, and if you don't come out on top, you won't have enough money in the account to finish the circuit after you repair the damage done to you by the opponents,(usualy they wait till you get close to a wall that is sticking out, and push you into it head first).
Not only that, I tried to use the "auto patcher" to get updates, and it doesn't work citing some .dll prob.
I'm beginning to think that ALL electronic arts games blow...I never got Madden nfl to work right either.
I think I will add NFS5 to my growing "coaster" collection...come to think of it as much as I'm whining about this, maybe I should'a posted this in "gripes N moans"
I can truly say that NFS High Stakes is the only game I ever got mad enough to want to melt the cd, and I am for the most part..placid.
'nough said.

Yea I think any version of Gran tourismo rocks...I even gave electronic arts some real negative feedback on NFS, and I pulled no punches:)

Nothing compares to the Gran Turismo. NFS High Stakes is not great but it's not bad either. Difficulty is always a good thing:cool:

what game r u talking about? both nfs: high stakes and pu?
i like a lot to play nfspu, used to play a lot more in the past, think you should consider youre not a so good player.. the evolution mode is really not easy - also the factory driver isnt: great! try finishing the factory driver mode first then start the career mode in evolution.
if you want to add some trick like more money to buy your cars or anything else you can think of try visiting nfs-racer.de (http://www.nfs-racer.de/), get also my car into the cops section if you like it.
that update from EA is just crap, you bet. nothing else better to say about it.

I don't have P.U. just High stakes...it came with my S.B. Live! xgamer....And I said it before, I'm not the greatest armchair driver, but I do like the hot persuit mode...I always get away.
I just hate that when you upgrade and repair, there ain't enough bread to finnish the tournament.
With Gran tourismo, if you ain't got enough dough, you just win a few more races, and get the car you like...plus you can setup the car more realisticly...like lowering the car, adjusting ground forces, camber, steering, etc. NFS H.S. ain't all that.
BTW, I never could get my V3 wheel to work..BSOD every time.
Ever try driving with a sidewinder gamepad after using a wheel? night and day diff

high stakes = nfs4
the only thing i like in high stakes is how customizable it is with many options for video, sound etc. much better than nfs5 (porsche).

NFS4 High stakes sucks compared to NFS 5 PU. It's an awesome game in my opinion. Graphics are great and effects are awesome too. I used to play it all of the time for a long time. I've never tried any of the GT games. I may have to though after hearing all the praise you guys are giving it.

Dude, please change the title of your thread -- the game you are talking about is indeed NFS4.

I hate to see all this slander against NFS5, which is a sweet game. :)

wow, it must be your using a sidewinder...

i use the keyboard (yes, the arrow keys and such) and am quite good at nsf4. i own every car in the game (two mclarens ::drool:: ) in career mode.

the key is to race the easier races multiple times so you have tons of extra money before you enter the long/hard races when you will need a ton of repairs. that or sell off your old cars when you need cash.

another trick i found is to NEVER use your brakes (well, extremely rarely). i just downshift anytime i wanna slow down and retain control. (please tell me you ARE using manual transmission, right?)

as far as loading times, maybe it's my 1.2 athlon that makes it load fast, but i never have more than a 10 second load for a track.

i play dirty and force the computer cars off the road all the time, you just have to know where/when to hit them. unfortunately that does blow up in my face quite a bit, heh.

of course, only owning a computer, i cant play this GT, but i'd have to say nfs4 is an awesome game, not being able to compare it to anything better.

now, if people are saying nfs5 is better!?! i never was interested, because it seems kinda lame with only porches. i mean, c'mon... no mclaren?! but maybe someday i'll find a nfs5 copy sitting on the clearance shelf and give it a whirl.

i think that not considering graphics and such technologies high stakes is one much better game.

so, what you're saying is NFS5 has better graphics, but NFS4 is a funner game?

well isn't this true for most games out there these days? I thought the original gt had better game play then gt2. But then gt3 has the best graphics outta all of em. :D

Altho there are games that have sequels that are better, ie rtcw. :p

right.
my words were above for nfs5: xprincox talking about the gt series.

into the technologies stuff (not only graphics) nfspu has the great 4 points physics which makes it a lot more fun to play than high stakes but thats it. if u play only pu for one month you wont probably wnat to play high stakes anymore, but youll miss hotpursuit mode, other brand different cars, different tracks, option menus and thigns like this..

Have any of you played the original Need For Speed. That was one of the best racing games ever. It was produced by Road and Track magazine. All the cars had real characteristics. It was awesome to play over the LAN at my house. That was the day five or so years ago. The graphics are ok too.

i have the special edition of the first version yet. played it a lot!

for DocClock aka MadClocker and Xprincox

can u both play nfspu using the most intensive graphics options, 7 opponents and dense traffic, anywhere all smoothly using any resolution higher than 1024x768 and 32bits color depth? at least 1280x1024 32bits.
thnks.
